Nuked From Orbit By The Power Of Love
Lisztomania, 1975. He rides the fucking penis, yada-yada.
I want to talk about that scene where Liszt, by that point religious, or thinks he is, slips Vampire-Wagner some holy water, and Wagner drinks it, and nothing happens.
Watch, Wagner says, as he drinks the rest of it. Reverse shot of Liszt watching. His world just well apart. It's not subtle, but in these few seconds, Daltrey with his mouth stuck open, this is the deepest, truest horror I think one can experience. Liszt's world just fell apart.
Well, he gets over it pretty quickly, turns around - that's right, my music! and the piano blasting scene starts.
I think about that shot, Daltrey's face in disbelief, almost disgust, neither very well conveyed, but I get it, and something is so close to breaking in his eyes, his face, a slab of chiseled meat.
Later, Liszt is in heaven. Him and his wives, lovers, daughter, all join together, fuse, to chase down the reincarnated Wagner, the essence of evil, and nuke him from outer space. They sing a song as they fly by.
